Cool Internships
The Art Institute of Chicago offers the following opportunities for teenagers: internships, classes and workshops, a youth advisory council, and a teen lab. Not in Chicago? Check out opportunities at your local art museum.
The Austin Museum of Art offers a variety of programs that nurture artistic growth through studio classes, mentorship with visiting artists and exhibition opportunities.
The Boston Museum of Fine Art offers studio classes which includes workshops on how to build your portfolio. In addition, they have a Teen Arts Council which is a paid internship where you can learn about careers in the museum industry as well as create teen events for the museum.
The Bronx Museum of Art offers a teen council program where you can create podcasts, ezines, and videos for the museum.
The Brooklyn Museum offers studio programs, volunteer and internship programs for teens. Teens get to plan parties each month at the museum and also get to assist younger students in art classes.
The Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis offers studio and portfolio development classes during the school year and a museum studies program over the summer where you can curate a show.
The High Museum in Atlanta offers workshops as well as an open studio where you can freely create with material supplied by the museum. They also have something called the "teen team" which is a group of 15 high school students that plan teen events, learn about the museum, and assist in the summer camps.
The Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston offers classes in new media as well as a "Teen Arts Council" where the students create teen night and other programs for the museum .
If you live in the LA area, apprenticeship programs are offered for teenagers at the J. Paul Getty Museum.
